The Krishi Samridhi Swarna Week (KSSW) is a five-day event being held from December 2nd to 6th, 2024, with the objective
of supporting farmers through trainings, workshops, Animal Health Camps etc., in agriculture and allied sectors. KSSW is being organized by KVK Dimapur in collaboration
with various national and regional bodies to uplift the farming community, particularly in the areas of sustainable agricultural practices and livelihood enhancement.
As part of the ongoing KSSW, a focused Training programme on Entrepreneurship Development in Fisheries Sector for fisheries
farmers and farm women was conducted on 3rd December 2024 at KVK Dimapur in collaboration with the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB)-NERC, Guwahati & CBBO-CARD
(Centre for Agricultural and Rural Development). The event aimed to educate and empower the region’s fisheries community with the latest knowledge on various government schemes,
and advancements in fisheries. The program was inaugurated by Shri. Ashim Kr. Borah, Senior Executive Technical & Officer-in-Charge of NFDB-NERC, who extended a warm welcome to the
distinguished Chief Guest, Smt. Bisinle Kemp, Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Niuland, Nagaland, and participants. Shri. Borah expressed his gratitude towards the fisheries
farmers for their commitment to improving the sector and underscored the importance of such training programmes for promoting sustainable growth in the fisheries industry.
Shri. Chubonthung Ovung, Project Manager CBBO-CARD, chaired the event, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts between the government, local authorities, and the farming community for ensuring the success of fisheries initiatives in Nagaland.
Dr. Homeshwar Kalita, Head of Regional Centre, ICAR Nagaland Centre, addressed the participants, elaborating on the ongoing implementation
of key government schemes. He highlighted several flagship schemes of the Government of India (GoI) such as the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan
Sampada Yojana (PM-MKSSY), Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF), and Kisan Credit Card (KCC) Scheme, which have significantly benefited fisheries farmers across the country.
Dr. Kalita urged the participants to leverage these schemes to improve their livelihoods.
The session was followed by an insightful presentation by Shri. Ashim Kr. Borah, who discussed in detail the implementation of these schemes in the Northeast
Region. Shri. Risi Chaudhury, Empanelled consultant, NFDB, also shared valuable insights into the recent advancements in fisheries and aquaculture practices. His talk provided a glimpse into cutting-edge
technologies and innovative methods that could help increase productivity and sustainability in the fisheries sector.
The event also featured a special session on Poultry Production and Management by Dr. Ebibeni Ngullie, Chief Technical Officer (CTO) Animal Science, KVK Dimapur.
Dr. Ngullie’s session addressed key aspects of poultry farming, including biosecurity, management practices, and disease prevention. Dr. Jyotish Barman, Scientist, Fishery Resource Management, ICAR Nagaland Centre
discussed on Climate-Resilient Technologies for Hill Aquaculture. He emphasized the challenges of fish farming in hilly areas and presented various sustainable and climate-resilient practices to ensure optimal fish
production despite the changing environmental conditions.
The day concluded with a closing remark by Shri. Ashim Kr. Borah, who expressed his satisfaction with the active participation and engagement of the attendees.
He reiterated the importance of utilizing the knowledge and resources gained. He also encouraged the participants to take full advantage of the various government schemes. At the end of the event, all the participants
were presented with certificates. Altogether 47 farmers and 10 officials participated in the training programme.
